The other day, I went to a standup comedy show  at Canvas Laugh Factory, Mumbai, to bring in my birthday in a laughing mode. It was the best start to my special day. As much as you enjoy laughing your guts out, the acts boost your creative juices as well.

Reality shows: Boon or Bane


Reality shows on television are the most happening things these days. Open your TV and you are sure to find at least one reality show if not many in every channel. I cannot exactly pinpoint the first reality show that happened in India or the west but my earliest memories of a show on TV which wasn’t made according to a fixed written script (although reality shows are scripted to an extent) are the famous Amitabh Bacchan hosted quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, the dance show Boogie Woogie and the music talent hunt Saregamapa which I watched as a kid. But then, how exactly do you define these? Do we call them reality shows or are they mere competitions?

The last few years has seen tremendous rise in the public interest for reality shows. People these days prefer watching reality shows over conventional TV shows. This fad for the reality shows has taken it's toll over the audience irrespective of the age factor. Everyone these days seems to be all gung-ho about the reality shows. This genre of television programming has really impressed all and sundry! Reality shows or the concept of reality television aims at proving the audience a real experience. The genre aims at demonstrating unplanned and unscripted situations, along with actual occurrences.
