Why we still laugh at F.R.I.E.N.D.S

On a lonesome Saturday evening I sat on my couch with a big bowl of popcorn and my favourite soda to catch up on the daily soaps. As I flipped the channels, I switched to Romedy Now, in hope of a rom-com showing, sadly they weren't instead there was an rerun of the season 1 of the sitcom Friends. I was never a Friends junkie and had never caught a single show on air but i decided to give it a go since it has been the "IT SHOW" among many I know. With the laptop on my side and the Half Baked Voices's email open, there was a deadline screaming at me and I was still indecisive about which topic to choose, so I did what I do best, I procrastinated.

The thing about Punjabi weddings

As I open the door, I see the mailman impatiently tapping his foot giving me the ‘what-took-you-so-long’ look. “bolo bhaiya” I say, he hands me a large lavish basket and signals me to sign across my name. After he left, I walked over to my bed and opened the delicately packaged basket, it had an invitation accompanied with a champagne bottle and assorted chocolates. The card simply read ‘Prerna weds Arjun’, it was finally upon us, it was our drama queen’s wedding day.

Prerna was flipping through her elder brother’s magazine while she waited for him; it was the only magazine with cute guys on the cover. ‘Ask Men’, the title seemed appropriate, for she had innumerable questions to ask to men. She was about to keep down the magazine when she found an article titled ‘Do I? Or Don’t I?’ this caught her interest and she turned the pages to open the article.

Marriage is a huge step, a step which simultaneously changes two people and everything that is around them and one can never know for sure if he or she is ready to get married. So why one should get married? Here are 5 reasons to tie the knot.

Love is a mystery no one can solve, and those who have tried have fallen into greater depths of the mystery. The emotions and the bonds connected to one tiny word called ‘Love’ are innate; it attracts everyone with its magnetic presence.  People all over celebrate an astounding feeling called ‘love’.

Ridhima, Sahil and Karan were the best of friends and they knew what it was to be in love for the past ten years they were each others valentines. A week long celebration of friendship and love had been their tradition ever since the fifth grade. Roses, chocolates, teddies, promises, propose, hugs and kisses were their week long schedule and a daily dose was guaranteed. They loved the idea of spending the valentines with each other as they had been together forever.

That’s habit. No matter what you you do, once a habit, always a habit. It becomes a part of you, a part which does not go away. Your habit can range from the habit of an emotion, drinking, smoking, reading, cooking or the habit of a person.

Is there a Walter White in all of us?

A boring Sunday afternoon and the TV remote in my hand. What do I do? I start flipping channels. And I flip channels with no interest I see an advertisement of an upcoming TV Sitcom “Breaking Bad”. The advertisement posed questions about the sins we commit in our lives. These sins may not be seen as major sins but little sins that we commit such as bucking a class or cheating on an exam but what happens when this sin becomes your alter ego?

Ricochet in Love

                                            

Many people equate love to certain objects they hold dear to their hearts but the essence of love is not the one that can be objectified.  One invests a lot of emotions, trust, honesty and their soul in a relationship. It’s like you carefully put one card on another to build the delicate house of cards and just when you’re about to achieve gratification for building such a fragile structure, a fraction of a second of distraction and all your dreams and expectations come crumbling down.

So as I sit with my coffee mug and try to enjoy the bitter Delhi winters, my phone breaks out singing “too close” by Alex Clare and a known name flashed on the screen, it was Baani. She couldn’t get her head around some new facebook settings and she flipped out. So I logged on to see what was bothering her and I realized that facebook had a ribbon on my timeline which said “2013 year review: Top twenty events.” I decided to click on it and find out my year’s review. It stated out some pretty major changes in my life in the current year. My recent travel stories and my freshman year of college were amongst the top events, followed by some posts which gained maximum likes and comments. So that’s how facebook summed up an entire year of my life.
