The last few years has seen tremendous rise in the public
interest for reality shows. People these days prefer watching reality shows
over conventional TV shows. This fad for the reality shows has taken it's toll
over the audience irrespective of the age factor. Everyone these days seems to
be all gung-ho about the reality shows. This genre of television programming
has really impressed all and sundry! Reality shows or the concept of reality
television aims at proving the audience a real experience. The genre aims at
demonstrating unplanned and unscripted situations, along with actual
occurrences.
The genre came into existence most probably in the 1990s with
a show named THE REAL WORLD, started in the Unites States and on the channel
MTV. Then the early 2000s witnessed some reality shows like 'Survivor' and 'Big
Brother'. Apparently, The United States of America and the American audience
has played a cardinal role initially in the advent and then in the ever
succeeding success of the reality shows. The reality shows and the concept of
reality television has also faced criticism at times, along with the
popularity.
People wanted a change. They were fed up of the same hum-drum
sort of television stuff.A fresh idea as a change is always welcome and that is
exactly what made way for the concept of reality television. Furthermore,
people are able to relate with these reality TV shows! These shows become a
part and parcel of their lives. It gives the audience a feeling that they are
watching a real, authentic show where nothing is pre-planned or scripted! These
shows at times give the audience a chance to know the celebrities better,
through the reality shows where celebrities also participate.
Furthermore, these reality shows give a chance to the general
public to demonstrate their talent and passion for the camera. There are
various reality TV shows that focus on taking fresh new talent and giving them
a platform demonstrate their talent. The life these days is getting busier and
busier, people want to see shows that are fun, entertaining and quick.
The
conventional Indian TV shows in particular, exhibit stories that run through
generations and involve a huge web of characters! People want dynamics in the TV
shows as well! So that even if they miss an episode or two, they don't need to
recall or watch the recap to comprehend what's happening. The response towards
this new concept of television programming has been phenomenal in the Indian
subcontinent as well! This concept of reality television is surely here to
stay, in vogue!
