When I decided to write on this topic
this week for Half baked beans, I was smiling to myself as anyone and everyone
is addicted to what’s app these
days. Yes it does save time when you have to share some photo-graph or a video or
a file from your mobile with other person who has what’s app downloaded on his mobile but what
next? It for sure doesn’t stop there.
Everyone keeps checking their mobiles
for some what’s app fun
message or a forward or a pic. It’s not an exaggeration if I say what’s app is one
of the top five communication platforms in the world now, first being Facebook closely
followed by twitter. Many other chatting apps have come to light after what’s
app like we chat, wow talk etc. but no other app could beat what’s app. From a
maid to a carpenter to a gym trainer to a shop keeper, everyone has what’s-app downloaded
on their mobiles.
My father can use internet but is not
well-versed with the day to day changing techno trends. He has a smart phone. I
downloaded what’sapp on it but he
never used it. He wanted to finalise a function hall for my brother’s wedding.
Before visiting the hall, the concerned person asks my father if he can use
what’s app! My dad was not very
sure. The person in charge wanted to share the snap shots on what’s app for a primary approval. The second
experience was when a carpenter asked if any of us have what’s app on mobiles as he wanted to forward
some designs. Like this I had many encounters with what’s appers. Whenever I
save a number I get curious and check if he/she is using what’s app. Few days
back I saw that a Mehndi-wallah who came to apply mehndi on our hands during my
brother’s wedding was what’s apping and smiling.
My curiosity got the better of me and
I checked his what’s-app profile on which he had status, “Alone is better in this
world!” Just check the depth and emotion in it :- ). That second I did
not mind his English language capabilities. I was amused as he is on-par with my
technology skills and learnt how to effectively use them too!
Like every technology has a downside
what’s app has its minuses too. Even though it is highly comfortable to chat on
what’s app and also make college groups and family groups the essence of
conversation is lost! After a long session of what’s yapping, oops I mean
what’s – apping we no longer remember why and what we are actually chatting!
Just like it is done on facebook, many events, news and other important
anecdotes are shared on what’s app as well. The good thing on what’s app is you
can have closed conversations between the four walls of the mobile!
There is no denying that what’s app
is my daily dose of entertainment. All the trendy jokes are shared first on
what’s app. For instance Alok Nath’s jokes got viral recently and there was a
sudden surge of his jokes on what’s app. Of course it is a different thing that
after certain point of time it went overboard and I got bored. However whenever
I feel bored to death at work or at home what’s app and the fun forwards or the
thought of the day messages and meaningful quotes save me from boredom!
Some people complain that what’s app
eats the battery. It doesn’t happen at least on I phone. What’s app is for sure
the latest fad and I am sure the craze will not die any sooner :- )
Earlier it was “SMS me ok? And now it is can you what’s app!? Even the Maggi noodles
are tastier when sprinkled with what’s app :P

Below are some alok nath jokes shared
in recent past:
"When you type Alok Nath on Google search, "I'm feeling
Lucky" changes to "I'm feeling Sanskari".

It is important to be silly and smile
some times because when you can’t resolve a problem, humour gives the strength
to face it :- )
Afshan
Great analysis. I find it intrusive with people forwarding jokes and pictures. I mean who wants to say good morning to fifty people on the phone every morning. It is great for elderly people, as you say. And college students too!
ReplyDeleteToo much of whats apping is damn boring at times ! I am totally not in to Good mornings or fwds . I even mute many groups :)

DeleteHi Afshan - I tried to resist whatapp as long as I could but finally gave in. Now, I hear regularly from family and cousins via whasapp. There are now about 18 different ways anyone can contact me.
